Welcome
Happy end of 2020, or happy beginning of 2021 if you're an optimist. Once again, I am getting this to you just a little too late to be called a "holiday" newsletter, so we will stick with the Annual Alaska Adventure Times. Welcome back.
You are currently visiting the digital version of this year's newsletter. I did put some effort into "going digital" this year with the rest of the world, but the print version is still accessible on our "print versions" page. Please remember, that I am no technical genius or website engineer, so be kind when it comes to page creation.
As always, we are excited to share our adventures with you this year, pandemic and all, and hope that they bring you a little joy and adventure from your own home. In the written stories I have done my best to be descriptive and include photos. Lucky for us, the pandemic did at least make it really easy to come up with a front page headline: Global Pandemic, Covid-19 Doesn't Slow Shelby and Justin. In addition to the written stories, I have included a "photo gallery" of different pictures from this year; I will be updating this periodically within the next month to make sure that we have done a good job of publishing most of them, but the website itself will likely not be updated again until next year. I will be sure to post on social media if/when I do make updates.
I did think that this year would be a little bit more difficult to come up with stories and things to talk about, but just like any other year, we have had plenty of friends and family come visit, beautiful drives and weekend trips, trips of our own, new additions and changes. I've done my best to make an exhaustive record of everything we have done in 2020. The picture that you see above is one of the many that we took on our drive through Denali National Park. Strangely enough, even though we did so many things, one of the things we didn't do was take a ton of pictures together. This was one of the very few I had to choose from. Justin has been using the 6 foot social distancing rule against me.
You may be wondering how it is that the world is experiencing a pandemic, most people are quarantined and working from home (including me) and yet I didn't find the time to get this out on time. The truth is, we have still had a ton going on and most people who know me know that I like to procrastinate and "work best on a deadline." I had plenty of 2020 goals to achieve, and I also waited until I was able to pick up my brand new laptop; my old, 10-year-old laptop didn't make this newsletter easier, so I was more than happy to delay for new equipment.
We are still accepting visitors all year round and have become incredibly seasoned tour guides; we can provide testimonials and references. During the summer, our single guest room fills up fast; please call ahead to check vacancy. The room comes with a full-size bed, a tv, no cable but a ton of DVDs, and a box fan. It is right across the bathroom for easy access and self-serve laundry services are located downstairs. Continental breakfast has been discontinued due to Covid, but Keurig coffee and individually packaged pop-tarts are often available in a variety of flavors; a snack cart is kept stocked near the entrance. Dinner reservations are highly advised. Our restaurant boasts a 4 star rating with a menu stocked full of game meals and our chef accepts compliments as payment (she also takes meal requests). Outdoor equipment and clothing in select sizes are available for rental. See our website for more information.

Denali National ParkOnce in a Lifetime
You literally have to win the lottery to be able to drive all the way through Alaska's Denali National Park. We didn't win the road permit lottery, but we hit the friend lottery and were able to go with our friends to see this amazing park. |
